Nutmeg's Hummus

I am a fiend for a good hummus. Hummus is actually my middle name (as well as guacamole). And honestly, there is no excuse for not making it from scratch, because it is SOOOO EASSSYYYY. All you need is a few ingredients and your trusty food processor. This isn’t to say I never buy hummus, because I certainly do. But 9/10, I will make it…because it is THAT easy and I know I am getting a delicious hummus with no added nasties.

So here is Nutmeg’s no-fuss hummus. You can even make this baby on bulk and freeze what you don’t need. Keeps well in the fridge in an air-tight container. Mine never lasts long, but will last easily up to around a week or a bit more.

Ingredients:

1 x tin canned organic chickpeas, drained and rinsed

1 x small lemon, juiced (may want a little more or less, depending on how zesty you want this bad boy)

1/3 cup Tahini (hulled or unhulled, whatever you desire - I change it up depending on what is in the cupboard)

2-3 tbsp cold pressed organic olive oil

1 1/2 tsp cumin

1 small garlic clove (optional, depending on whether you want garlic breath or not)

Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

  1. Whiz up the chickpeas for a few seconds.

  2. Add all other ingredients and process.

  3. Add cold water (ideally from the fridge) slowly to get the right consistency. At this point I will taste test and add any of the above ingredients (except chickpeas) to satisfy my taste buds!

Easy peasy. Enjoy your delicious and healthy home-made hummus with no added nasties!
